Avalon

There's nothing like time by the ocean...
I feel like it's one of the best things for the soul.
We were lucky enough to spend 2 days in Avalon, NJ with my mother...
I thought that W would enjoy himself, but I had no idea just how much...

Let me tell you, I have never seen my boy more full of joy.
He rolled around, threw sand, skipped, hopped, ran, fell over, danced, and somersaulted like mad.
He was just experiencing everything and it was so true and beautiful.
I could write paragraphs about it, but I think I'd rather commit everything to memory.
I know my mother and I will never forget this.

Eating sand...and I didn't stop him. Children learn with all of their senses and this was another experience. He figured out quickly that it wasn't something to eat.
(of course, there are things I would never permit him to taste...but things like dirt, sand, bread dough, baking ingredients, etc....I'm ok with it, to an extent.)

The weather wasn't sunny or warm and the town was absolutely deserted.
We were nearly the only people on the beach and it was wonderful.

The fog rolled in and out all day long.

I found so many beautiful shells and stones to bring home; excited to share them with the children..

The drive home from the beach is always a sad one.
I almost always cry at some point.
But the Summer is nearly here and we'll be looking forward to more..

Ah! what pleasant visions haunt me
As I gaze upon the sea!
All the old romantic legends,
All my dreams come back to me.

-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

  7. Oh Rebecca, little W is embodying just how it feels to be there at the seaside! And it awakens every sense in such a good way- and he feels that! LOVE.
