Eastertide Preparations..

We've been preparing eggs all week long now; using watercolors to paint and plant dyes to coat eggs in a beautiful pale hue of color.

indigo, turmeric, beet juice...
and a splash of vinegar.

Some of the older children enjoyed rolling the eggs in their hands while covered in paint...

We've dyed over 100 eggs this week; preparing for our now annual egg hunt down at the rose garden.
We had a lovely time last year, but there were some frowns when competitive spirits started to creep in.
I suppose it is quite normal to want to find the most eggs, the most beautiful, etc.
I am not implying that children should be saved from upset 100% of the time...these emotions are a part of life.
However, it is my intention to have the egg hunt be a joyous time for all involved, young and older.
Part of solving conflict is to be prepared for it ahead of time. While working with these children very closely and for over a year now, I can see who is likely to be come upset. I can see who may tend to act a bit boisterously and how to best serve this without squelching pride.

a small group today...

Spring is here and we're about to celebrate the rebirth of joy and beauty.
Holy week is upon us and there is so much going on  in the church community.
Tonight, Holy Thursday, we'll enjoy a middle eastern meal with the parish and go on to attend the Maundy Thursday service (depending on W's ability...) where we celebrate the last supper of Jesus Christ. We also participate in the rite of foot washing John 13:1-17, where we wash the feet of another, who in turn washes ours...just as Jesus washed the feet of his 12 apostles, knowing full well that he would be betrayed.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him."
John 13:16

I'm working on a simple gift for W for Easter. His grandmother and great grandmother both give him a basket, so I don't feel the need to give yet one more and have it be too much.

A blessed Easter to you and yours!!

  1. My play group had the children collect eggs and put them in a giant basket. The children worked as a team finding the eggs.

  2. Dear Rebecca, thank you - once again - for your description and sharing. I found it especially interesting to read your thoughts about the easter hunt and of actions wich I presume to be born from diferent temperaments. I am curious: You mentioned your way of dealing with boisterous behaviour - if you had the time, would you mind writing a bit more about it?

I wish you and your family a wonderful easter time.
