Folk Festival

A Folk Festival celebrating the culture and hertitage of The Pennsylvania Dutch....

Roof Thatching

Hands-on outdoor wash house

It took me forever to pick just one!!

A fiber artist specializing in plant dyeing, wet and needle felting...

Beeswax candle dipping

This festival was bursting with craft vendors and antiques.
We didn't have enough time to see everything!
...I had my hopes set on finding a handmade broom within my budget for the day...

At $18.00, the price was certainly right!
...And I was excited:)
...My friend and I swept our way back home:)

...While driving home, I watched a group of Mennonite boys riding their bikes on the road. I am so intrigued by the nearby Amish and Mennonite commuinities...but I know very little. I admire their simplicty and dedication. I'm in awe of their craftmanship and discipline. There's so much more than what meets the eye, but I love being an observer.

..This holiday weekend, we are enjoying friends and family staying in our home, sunshowers, fireworks, and cookouts:)
Happy 4th of July.... Peace is Patriotic!!!!

  1. Oh this looks like it would be the perfect festival for my family to attend!
I, too, and very intruiged by the Amish. When I lived in PA at the temple/self-sufficient farm we were surrounded by the Amish. We did lots of trading with them. I loved it all and miss it so much. I wouldn't mind living within an Amish community for a bit to take it all in. I respect them so much!

  6. Happy 4th! I'm in awe of the Amish community as well. I grew up close to an Amish community. We used to see the Amish at our local supermarket all the time, and still do. Your broom is lovely! What a beautiful festival!

  11. I saw the picture of the broom and I said to myself "Oh, I hope she gets a broom!" I have to admit there was a little bit of suspense there waiting to see if you did!

I am hoping to attend a festival this fall and purchase a handmade broom for us. Maybe it will inspire me to use it more often.....
