One "fair" evening....

In our town, the end of summer is marked with the arrival of the 158 year old Allentown Fair.

We live in the center of an agricultural district, so the fair is always full of wonderful livestock, baking, growing, antiquing, and crafting contests...

Below is my most favorite antique featured at the fair this year: a decorative fragment from an old ride at our local amusement park. "Journey to the center of the earth" was a spooky mill chute ride which I adored, and was always proud of myself for being brave enough to ride! The ride is long gone, replaced by newer and flashier rides...but none the better...

A piece of the ride featured for antique judging...brought back a wave of memories for me...

The fair hosts a few "freak shows" every year....I'm never sure what to think....but always curious...

The rides were SCARY! Jay and I decided to be silly and ride one while grandpa held W. I panicked the entire time. I remember my days of bungee jumping, parasailing, and going on rides without any abandon....apparently, those days are over!

Goodbye, summer. You've been so good to us!

  4. Hello -- Thank you so much for visiting me over at my blog (http://webloomhere.blogspot.com/)and leaving a comment... I love your blog, too, and likewise, pleased to meet ya'! How lovely you're becoming a Waldorf teacher. The closest Waldorf school to us is 40 minutes away and so not an option, but, oh! how I wish it were closer... Looking forward to visiting you again (at your blog, of course!)

  22. It looks like a wonderful fair. Our state fair comes later this fall and I can't wait! Our favorite things are the crafts, animals, and food we never dare eat but once a year.
